A homemade drain cleaner without using dangerous chemicals.

A clogged or sluggish drain can be so aggravating and such a nuisance. But, most people will wait until it will not drain at all to try to unclog it or call the plumber, and then it can be an even bigger problem or expense.  There are some plumbing issues that are much easier to deal with at the first sign of a problem, and a clogged drain is near the top of that list. But, the good news is that this problem can often be fixed with a simple homemade solution that has just three ingredients that you more than likely already have.

Baking soda, vinegar and hot water. That’s it. In many instances you can just pour a 1/2 cup of vinegar and 3/4 cup of baking soda down your drain and let it set for 2 to 3 hours.  When the two ingredients interact with each other there will be a little foaming and fumes, so don’t seal the drain cover to tightly, just cover with a plate. After it has set for a couple of hours or so, run hot water down your drain to aid the dissolving process. If you have a severely clogged drain you may have to repeat the process.

Remember, that you are mixing two chemicals and using hot water so be careful.

Baking soda and vinegar is also a great way to freshen your drain and will get rid of sink odors.

For just a few pennies you can have a very natural drain cleaner without using harsh chemicals.
