Most leaks come from the inside tank.

Keep in mind that water heater leaking may be a symptom of a much larger problem. The water heater leak may be a sign of something much more serious and require immediate attention. In extreme cases, a catastrophic and complete water heater failure can cause a significant flood that could lead to big repair bills and damage to your  property. If the leak is the inside tank or a pipe has burst this could cause a very significant flood and result in damaged property and expensive repair bills.

A water heater leaking may seem like a small problem, but what appears to be just a small leak can very quickly become a huge problem. Even a small amount of water will cause damage to your sub-floors, floors and walls, so you want to act fast.

Not every small puddle of water found at the base of a water heater is necessarily due to a leak. Be careful not to overreact when you see water around your water heater you want to make sure it is actually a leak.

Small drips may just be condensation forming.

Since water heaters are a point where cold and hot water come together the water you see on the floor may be the result of condensation that has formed on the pipes and is dripping to the floor.  It also may be a water line leaking and not the water heater. A very close inspection is required in some cases to find the exact source of the leak.

Water Heater Problems where do you start? Is your water heater leaking on the top or is your water heater leaking from bottom? Does it even matter?

Unfortunately, most leaks from a water heater come from the tank on the inside leaking and if that is the case, the only answer is to replace the water  heater.

Did you know that prolonged water heater leaking could also cause mold and mildew, which may present health concerns for you or your family.

If you are considering making these repairs yourself, always remember that most water heaters are preset at 125 Degree Fahrenheit and can be set as high as 160 degrees. This is enough to cause serious burns. You should always take the needed precautions for safety.

Because of the high voltage electrical or the gas lines going to a water heater, this is the type of repair that may require the services of a professional plumber.
